Christmas Chocolate Pastry Swirls

Photo 2015-11-10, 11 00 33 AMThere are two things I really really love, and those are chocolates and Christmas! I have partnered with Ferrero Rocher this holiday season for their Evening with Ferrero Rocher experience. Make sure to head on over to the Ferrero Rocher Canada  website to see how you can enter to win some beautiful prizes myself and two other lovely Canadian bloggers  helped to currate.

I also wanted to share how I celebrate the holidays with my all time favourite chocolate!

Of course the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says chocolate is FOOD. So I thought why not share a fun recipe I created using my Ferrero Rocher chocolates.

These little pastry swirls are sooo delicious and would be perfect for Christmas morning or sharing over coffee with friends during the holidays. As always with my recipes they are so simple to make and will have everyone thinking you have been slaving away in the kitchen when really in reality you have not.

Ingredients for my Christmas Chocolate Pastry Swirls

For the Pie Dough

2 1/2 cups flour

 1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

2 sticks of butter or one cup

1/2-1 cup cold water

chocolate spread ( I used Nutella)

your favourite Christmas chocolates ( mine are Ferrero Rocher)

icing sugar for sprinkling on top

Make your Pie dough by combining the flour, sugar, salt and cold butter and mixing using your hands until the butter is in very small pieces no bigger then tiny peas.Photo 2015-11-10, 11 25 37 AM

Add in your cold water a little at a time and mix until it forms a dough then roll into a ball and refrigerate for 15-20 min.

Roll your dough out and spread a healthy portion of chocolate spread all over the dough leaving about 1-2 inch on all sides

Now fold your piece of dough in half

Next cut 2 inch wide strips of dough that are app. 7-8 inch long. Then cut down the middle leaving one end in tact.

Twist your strips of dough, then shape into a circle.

I wanted to make sure my pastry had indents for my chocolates when they were done baking. I rolled tinfoil into small balls about the size of the chocolates and placed them in the centre of the swirls so they wouldn’t close in on me, when they baked in the oven. Brush with an egg wash.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins. Then turn the heat up to 425 degrees and bake for 3-5 min to make the crust golden.

Let cool then place your chocolates in the center and dust with icing sugar
